Laser Surgery

Laser SurgeryWe are proud to offer the latest in laser surgery as one of the many highly technical options for your pet. In 2009, we added the most advanced laser surgery system so we can provide the best possible healthcare for your four-legged family member. Just as with the latest human surgical lasers, the benefits of laser surgery for your pet include:

  • Reduced Pain
  • Reduced Bleeding
  • Reduced Swelling
  • Reduced Risk of Infection
  • Extreme Surgical Precision
  • Faster Recovery

A surgical laser emits a high concentrated beam of light-which is the only thing that touches your pet. Our laser seals nerve endings so patients are much more comfortable during and after surgery. It also seals blood vessels, dramatically decreasing bleeding, while making the surgical field easier to see. Since nothing but the beam touches the patient, trauma to tissue is reduced. It also seals the lymphatics, reducing swelling after surgery. While the laser can be used to make large incisions, it is so precise that it can selectively remove only a few cells at a time "erasing" unhealthy tissue. And our laser kills any bacteria along its path, reducing the risk of infection.

Veterinary Associates of Cape Cod has made a substantial investment in laser equipment and training for one simple reason-your pet can have a less painful and faster recovery.

LigaSure™ Vessel Sealing System

Our LigaSure vessel sealing system gives our patients something no other surgical tool can-permanent vessel sealing-which means no bleeding. The LigaSure system's revolutionary technology replaces almost all other hemostatic tools because it doesn't just ligate (tie with suture) blood vessels, it actually fuses vessels to make a permanent seal. This means we can seal large blood vessels with no chance of post-operative bleeding.

We use this machine for both laparoscopic and open surgical procedures. It is much faster than traditional suturing techniques-so it dramatically reduces the surgical time-while adding another substantial level of safety. It is not uncommon for this device to reduce the time of a major surgical operation such as a spleen removal by more than half. As a result, our patients have less time on the surgical table, less bleeding during and after the procedure, and a faster recovery.

The LigaSure system is generally only used in human operating rooms. At Veterinary Associates of Cape Cod, we feel your pet deserves the best and safest technology, regardless of how many legs they walk on. As a result, we are the only veterinary hospital on Cape Cod to currently utilize this level of surgical technology.
